At Mid-Pacific Country Club, great golf doesn’t happen by accident. The smooth greens, lush fairways, and consistently excellent playing conditions members enjoy are the result of thoughtful planning, year-round maintenance, and an ongoing commitment to investment in the golf course.
While golfers often notice the finished product, much of the work that keeps the course healthy happens behind the scenes. From adopting innovative new technology to performing essential agronomic practices, Mid-Pacific’s Golf Course Maintenance team is focused on preserving the course for today’s members while caring for the environment that makes the Windward side of Oʻahu so special.

One of the club’s most recent investments is the addition of Oʻahu’s first fully autonomous fairway mower. This all-electric mower quietly and efficiently maintains fairways while reducing noise and eliminating the emissions associated with traditional gas-powered equipment.
Rather than replacing the expertise of the maintenance team, the technology allows staff to dedicate more time to the detailed work that requires hands-on care—from course presentation to specialized turf management.
This investment reflects a broader philosophy at Mid-Pacific: using innovation to enhance both course conditions and environmental stewardship. By embracing equipment that operates more efficiently and with a smaller environmental footprint, the club continues to modernize its operations while remaining committed to responsible resource management.
Technology, however, is only one part of the equation.

Maintaining healthy turf also requires a strong agronomic program, and one of the most important practices performed each year is greens aerification. Recently, the Maintenance team completed its annual greens aerification, which included aerating the putting surfaces, cleaning them, and applying a layer of sand top dressing.
Although golfers may temporarily notice small holes, sand, and slightly slower putting conditions, aerification is one of the most valuable investments in the long-term health of the golf course.
The process relieves soil compaction by creating openings that allow air, water, and nutrients to move more freely through the rootzone. It also encourages stronger root development and improves drainage, creating healthier, more resilient turf capable of withstanding the daily demands of play and maintenance equipment.
These benefits are especially important on the Windward side of Oʻahu, where high humidity, frequent rainfall, cloudy conditions, and periods of saturated soil create unique challenges for maintaining championship-quality playing surfaces. Aerification helps the greens and tees “breathe,” allowing excess moisture to move through the soil while promoting healthier root systems throughout the growing season.
Annual core aerification is complemented by additional maintenance practices throughout the year—with a goal to minimize disruption for Club members, while continuing to improve turf health.

Following this year’s greens aerification, members can expect the putting surfaces to steadily improve over the coming weeks. Under favorable growing conditions, noticeable recovery typically occurs within seven to ten days, with smoother putting conditions generally returning within two to three weeks. Weather—including rainfall, humidity, and sunlight—plays an important role in the recovery process.
While aerification may be a temporary inconvenience, it is an essential investment in the quality and consistency of the golf course. Together with ongoing improvements such as the club’s autonomous electric mower, these efforts reflect Mid-Pacific Country Club’s commitment to providing exceptional playing conditions while embracing thoughtful, sustainable practices.
Every improvement—whether visible on the fairways or happening beneath the surface—supports the same goal: delivering excellent playing conditions and a healthy golf course today, while preserving it for generations of members to come.
